Hello, my name is Maggie May! If you wondering yes, I am named after that one Rod Stewart song. I am from New Jersey but am currently a student in Sarasota at Ringling College of Art and Design, majoring in Computer Animation. When I am not creating, you can find me outside. I am very competitive when it comes to sports. Softball, flag football or skateboarding is my go to. Then there's my three furry brothers, Pip, Jake, and Maverick. They are my pups and they’re my WORLD. I am also highly involved with my own charity, Bear Hugs Inc. A Nonprofit that brings teddy bears to kids in the hospital during the holidays and I am currently creating an animated short film for. |
My Artist Statement
Growing up my family would have Disney movies and shows constantly playing. I would sit, watch them, and try to recreate the characters that appeared on the screen. In grade school, I migrated more towards realism. I loved to make portraits of famous people, friends, family and pets. Then I started to get obsessed with Digital artwork. I started to get into film, digital paintings, and computer animation. I discovered how amazing computer animation is as a medium, and can be used as a creative tool to tell stories that film may not be capable of. I would watch films like Big Hero 6, Ratatouille, and Monster's Inc. and I'd connect with the characters that I wouldn't be able to in the real world. |
Passion, motivation, and self discipline are the traits that drive me to my absolute potential. I try to be very observant, present, and have a great appreciation for life, I try to convey that through my art by using detail, realism and emotion. These are all characteristics that give the illusion of true life, and what is better than that? I am a firm believer that connecting and relating to one another makes all parties learn and appreciate the smaller, more valuable things.
The more I create, I see the positive affect I can have on people. Just like I felt when I was younger; watching the newest animated movie come alive on my screen. My eyes would brighten while having a huge smile on my face. I hope to recreate that same feeling for generations to come.
